Japan Disaster Relief

There are no words to adequately express my sadness for Japan today. The scenes of destruction are mind blowing. If you’ve somehow managed to avoid the television coverage I implore you to please view these photos at the Big Picture.

Besides CNN’s rather crappy television coverage, you can watch the developing story live online via the BBC or NHK via Ustream. Alternately you can watch live coverage with your iPhone, iPad, etc via NHK World TV’s iOs app (iTunes link) or Alternately via Al Jazeera’s iOs app (iTunes link.)

Ways to donate to the disaster relief:

- By far the easiest way is to text the word “redcross” to 90999. This will add a $10 charge to your cell phone bill and your donation will go to the American Red Cross’ Japan relief fund. You can do this up to 3 times for a total charge of $30.

- Another quick and easy way to donate is via the iTunes store. (iTunes link)

- Online donations can be made at redcross.org, salvationarmy.org, oxfamamerica.org, worldvision.org or crs.org. All of these charities meet the Better Business Bureau’s standards for charity accountability.

Google’s person finder is available to help you find your family members and loved ones. Google has also set up a Crisis Response page.

While I’ve managed to find the vast majority of my old friends in Japan there are several that I’ve lost touch with over the years. If you happen to be reading this please comment below or drop me a line to let me know that you’re well.

Thank you for reading this and please help the people of Japan however you can.
